Here are our 'always overlooked' animals that desperately need loving homes

updated 9th June 2009

All you true animal lovers, please consider opening your hearts and your homes to one of the following:

COBI

Cobi  Japanese Akita, male approximately 3yrs old

Cobi is a very loyal lovely dog, he had been rehomed recently and his new owner only had praise for this lovely gentleman.  He lived with two children one in his teens and a little girl age 5yrs old.  He was the perfect house guest, learnt very quickly the rules and was housetrained within minutes.  He played happily with the children and loved having loads of cuddles, he was even getting on with their resident cat.

So why was he brought back I hear you say, well unfortunately due to Cobi’s size and strength his new owner being a rather petite lady found it very hard to walk him, also having a young child present with her whilst out walking.  Cobi’s sheer strength on the lead was too much for her, even thou she has previously had the same breed.

Cobi, is very strong on the lead, and unfortunately he is not used to other dogs, he is fine if they are in the distance, but if close to him, he pulls to get to them.

Cobi is a beautiful dog, which needs an experienced owner, who can train him to walk positively on the lead.

Due to his size and strength we would recommend that he is homed with older children, even thou he was fine with younger children.

Spencer

Rottie

Male approximately four years old.

What a seriously handsome young man we have here.

This is our Spencer, Spencer is a very strong, big boy.   He loves to play all of the time he thinks he is still a puppy, so would love a fun loving active home with loads of stimulation and exercise.  Spencer can be nervous of strangers, but with training this should be overcome. He is good with other  big dogs and children 12yrs+.  Is there a Rottie lover out there that can bring this beautiful creative SHINE?

Go on give it some thought, you won’t be disappointed.

Spencer is up to date with his vaccinations, flea and worm treated, neutered, micro chipped and will have six weeks free insurance with Pet Plan.

Barney

Collie/RottieX  is approximately 2½ years old.

Well is Barney is a very intelligent, cute dog.  He has had some training, and he is quiet a joy on the lead, he will walk to heal with a lose lead.  Barney does love to chase cars, so if and when you let him off the lead, it must be away from any roads or tracks.  Barney is yet another dog that does not others of his species, or any other animals.

Barney is very protective of his home, so he will alert you by barking if anyone is near the house, he is a very good guard dog.  He is also protective of those he has bonded to, so care and slow introductions must be held when visitors come over.  Barney would be better suited to a quite home, ideally someone on their own, so he knows to trust and rely on them.

Barney also likes to chat to you, especially when you are about to feed him, but in general he is not a barker only on these occasions.

Barney adores his tummy being tickled and likes being stroked around his ears and his chest rubbed.  Barney is such a character, he loves his baths, and likes a good shampoo and set, then a good blow dry all over, especially his tummy.

We have found that Barney prefers biscuits than meat dinner, so a complete meal is ideal for him.  Now we are not sure if he had to search for food previously, as he has shown that he can be slightly possessive of his food, and it is recommended that you do not give him any type of bones, as he will protect them and warn you off if you go near.

Barney, has quite thick dark hair, so he finds it hard to go for long walks when it is hot, so nice short walks in the heat of the day, or save them for longer ones when it’s cooler in the evening.  If he is taken out whilst it is very hot, he becomes very grumpy and plays up on the lead.

Barney loves his grub, so you must ensure you put everything away, even some other things, if it can be eaten it will be.

Barney does not like you touching his paws, but loves to be brushed, as long as you leave his paws and tail.

THIS DARLING BOY HAS BEEN WITH US TO LONG, HE WAS IN FAMILY AND A NICE REPORT WAS GIVEN.  HE CAN BE POSSESIVE, BUT SOMEONE MUST HAVE HAD A DOG LIKE THAT BEFORE AND KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH HIS LITTLE PROBLEM, THINK ABOUT, FULL SUPPORT BY US IN EVERY WAY

TOBY

Jack Russell Terrier

NEUTERED MALE, 4 YEARS

Days come and days go, but still Toby waits and hopes that this will be the day for him.

Toby has been at the rescue longer than any other of our dogs, why you ask, well Toby has special needs, he needs someone that is patient, firm, fair and experienced in his breed.

We do not know what happened to Toby in those very special months from birth, but what every it was has worried him and made him need special help and trust from humans.

Let me tell you a wee bit about our Toby.

Toby, unfortunately is used to his own way, Why, because he has never had a owner to teach him what is and what is not acceptable.  He might well jump on the armchair and be reluctant to come off, so there are many ways you can teach that this is not acceptable.  We will be happy to discuss them with you later.

Toby is typical of his breed, he loves attention if and when he wants it, he stubborn and can be grumpy.  So he needs a firm but totally fair hand, he needs distraction from scary or potential problems, he responds well to food so this can and does help.

Toby is yet another little dog, that has not been socialised at those crucial times of puppy hood, so I am afraid he doesn’t like other dogs or small animals.

Toby is a joy on the lead, after the initial excitement he calms down and enjoys his walks, he can get easier spooked, for example someone going passes on a bike, or roller skates, sometimes even a push chair, but again distracting him whilst or even before normally does the trick.

Toby WILL NOT respond to any type of harsh commands or treatment, we believe he may have mean roughly dealt with before he came to us, he does not like to be touched around his neck or having his collar held.  AGAIN, treats and distractions always win him over.

Toby would be in his element, if he was allowed to be what he wants to be, he would love to live in a rural home, like on a farm, where he could accompany you during the day whilst you get on with your business.  Or someone that has a outside job like a warden, or  like.  Toby, is not an ideal in door dog, he is of working stock, I am sure he would come on leaps and bounds if he was to get that opportunity.

When Toby comes to your home, he will need some time and patience, he will be unsure and frightened, it’s been too many years since he has had the luxury of a home.  So, he will need to be shown the back door on regular occasions and to be shown the garden to realise that this is where he needs to go, then he will need loads of praise and reward.  But if he were lucky enough to find a rural home, where he is with you all day, I believe he would be no trouble in the home, as he loves his bed, and enjoys a good sleep, so as long as he worn out, he will be an angle.

Maxium

Staffie X, male 7-8yrs

Maxium is a lovely boy, he is very friendly and playful. Loves people but not good with other dogs or cats unfortunately. It would be best if he was rehomed with older children 10yrs+ due to him not liking other dogs.  He loves loads of attention, such a loving and affectionate boy, due to this reason he misses you when you are not, hence he doesn't like being left,

This boy would suit an active home, with a confident family that are able to help him with socialising, and ideally someone that can either be with him most of the day, or to take him with you.  A good, sweet well behaved boy in every other way.

Honey

THIS BEAUTIFUL, FUN LOVING DOG NEEDS SOMEONE TO GIVE HER A CHANCE, PLEASE CAN YOU BE THE ONE?

FINDING IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHY NO ONE WANTS TO LOVE HER?

Honey is the most beautiful looking Staffie X, she is still a pup and is only 2 years of age.

She is lively and very excitable girl like most pups should be.  So ideally we are looking for the right family for this girl, a family that understands she is a big pup, that is energetic, full of bounce and very playful, ideally to rehomed to older children due to the reasons above.

Honey would benefit strongly with going to training classes she is good with dogs and is currently spending time with her mate our Tom, she is a very affectionate girl that just needs to find the right home for her, could you be that person?  ‘Give us a call if you would like to know more about her.
